How does charging with a charging card work?

Charging with a charging card is a simple process that usually involves the same steps.

  1. Registration: To use a charging card, you usually need to first register with a charging card provider. This can be done online through the website of the charging card provider or via a mobile app. During the registration process, you need to provide personal information such as your name, contact details, and payment information.

  2. Obtaining a charging card: Once you have registered, you will receive the charging card from the provider. This can be a physical charging card that resembles a credit card, or it can be a virtual charging card delivered via a mobile app.

  3. Finding a charging point: Before you start charging, you need to find a suitable charging point. This can be done via the website or app of the charging card provider, where you can view a map of available charging points. You can also use other charging point finder tools or navigation systems that display charging locations.

  4. Using the charging card: Once you arrive at the charging point, locate the charging station and follow the instructions at the site. Usually, you'll find a charging cable that you can connect to your electric car. Take your charging card and hold it near the designated reader on the charging point. This will start the charging session and activate the power.

  5. Charging and payment: After the charging session starts, your car begins to charge. Depending on the charging point and the speed of the charger, charging may take some time. During charging, the consumed kilowatt-hours (kWh) are monitored. At the end of the charging session, payment is processed based on the consumed energy. This is usually billed by the charging card provider based on the tariff plan you selected during registration.

  6. Removing the charging card: Once your car is fully charged or you have reached the desired amount of energy, you can stop the charging session. This is usually done by holding your charging card near the reader of the charging point again. You can then disconnect the charging cable and safely store the charging card again.

Charging with a charging card may vary slightly depending on the specific charging card provider and the charging point you use. It is advisable to carefully follow the instructions from the charging card provider and the charging point for a smooth and efficient charging process.
