How does charging with a charging card work?

Charging with a charging card is a simple process that usually involves the same steps.

  1. Registration: To use a charging card, you usually need to first register with a charging card provider. This can be done online via the charging card provider's website or through a mobile app. During the registration process, you must provide personal information, such as your name, contact details, and payment information.

  2. Obtaining the charging card: After registering, you will receive the charging card from the provider. This can be a physical card that resembles a credit card, or it can be a virtual charging card provided through a mobile app.

  3. Finding a charging point: Before starting to charge, you need to find a suitable charging point. This can be done via the charging card provider's website or app, where you can view a map of available charging points. You can also use other charging point locating tools or navigation systems that display charging points.

  4. Using the charging card: Once you arrive at the charging point, locate the charging station and follow the instructions on the charging point itself. Typically, you will find a charging cable that you can connect to your electric car. Take your charging card and present it to the designated reader on the charging point. This will start the charging session and activate the electricity.

  5. Charging and payment: After the charging session has started, your car will begin charging. Depending on the charging point and the speed of the charger, charging may take some time. During charging, the kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed are recorded. At the end of the charging session, the payment is processed based on the energy consumed. This is usually billed by the charging card provider according to the rate plan you chose during registration.

  6. Removing the charging card: Once your car is fully charged or you have reached the desired amount of energy, you can stop the charging session. This can usually be done by presenting your charging card again to the reader at the charging point. Then you can disconnect the charging cable and safely store the charging card again.

Charging with a charging card may vary slightly depending on the specific charging card provider and the charging point you use. It is advisable to carefully follow the instructions of both the charging card provider and the charging point for a smooth and efficient charging process.
